  • A Day in Champagne (1 day) Description

After 1 hour 30 drive, you will arrive to the Champagne region known in Roman times as Campania (Land of Plains) and celebrated since the days of Dom Pérignon for its sparkling wines, the only bubbly, and grown in designated areas, aged and bottled to the strictest standards that can be labeled as champagne.

Driving along the “Route du Champagne” that wends its way through one prosperous wine-growing village to the next, you will be driven through CHATILLON SUR MARNE that is famous for being the birthplace of pope Urbain II whose giant statue overlooks the Marne Valley with its timber-framed churches and picturesque villages. After having a closer look at his statue and enjoying the thrilling panoramic view, you will continue your journey driving to EPERNAY, the capital of Champagne. Here you will visit the largest and the most prestigious champagne producer in the world : Moët and Chandon,
During over an hour, an expert of the house will explain you the details of the method of Champagne making from the grape picking to the bottling. The visit is followed by a tasting .
In case there is no availability at Moet&Chandon, your guide will take you for a visit and tasting at another of the famous Champagne houses in Epernay or Reims ( Veuve Clicquot, Ruinard, Taittinger, Pommery, Mumm....)

You will continue your journey to the village of HAUTVILLERS, the home-village of Dom Pérignon where you will have a look at the local church with Dom Perignon's tomb.

It is time now for a very nice lunch (not included), in one of the typical local restaurants. Your guide will drive you to Reims, the “Coronation City”. If time you will have a private guided visit of the Cathedral NOTRE-DAME DE REIMS.

Before heading back to Paris, your guide will to stop for a visit and tasting at a family owned Champagne House for several generations. During that stop, the wine makers themselves will share with you their own passion, family story and of course their "bubbles". The family owned Champagne Houses we recommend are Roger Constant Lemaire, Ployez Jacquemart, Tribaut, etc.

A Day that will leave you bubbly memories!
